October 18, 2012

The past week for your Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company has been a busy one. On Wednesday October 10th we opened our engine room for the public's enjoyment during our FIRE PREVENTION open house. The weather, people and volunteers made it a great evening to be a part of. Almost 200 firefighter helmets were given away to children and many more people stopped by the station to see what was inside. The children had fun with the stop drop and roll, smoke tunnel, and dressing up like a firefighter while parents and children alike enjoyed the safety trailer and all the apparatus on display.
All in all, it was a very fun evening for everyone who attended and we were able to receive some donations that will surely go to a good cause. We do apologize for having to leave in a hurry during the evening for a car fire on the bypass...no, it wasn't staged. But that's daily life at the station. You never know when you have to drop what you're doing to help the community.

On Saturday October 13th, Thorndale Fire Company participated in Public Safety Day hosted by K-Mart of Thorndale. Public Safety Day included a nice variety of emergency apparatus from SEPTA Transit Police to Alert's Rescue 45. The highlight of the day was certainly the landing and taking off of Life Net 61. Life Net 61 is a MBB/Kawasaki BK 117 aircraft. The aircraft is 43 feet long, weighs 7,055 pounds and has an approximately 300-mile range and is based from Christiana Hospital and Georgetown Airport in Georgetown, Del. Christiana Care LifeNet, an affiliate of Air Methods' LifeNet Medical Transport System, provides round-the-clock critical-care intra-facility and on-scene emergency air transportation in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. The LifeNet flight team includes a pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic. During rapid air transport, this highly skilled flight team provides patients with emergency critical care. Flight teams are equipped an array of critical-care equipment and technology.

On Wednesday October 17th, the Thorndale Fire Police headed to Elverson to assist Station 69; Twin Valley with their annual Halloween parade. As usual, traffic flowed around the event with no problem and the parade goers had a blast!

Another Event?! YES! On Saturday October 20th, G.O. Carlson will be CLOSED from 7:00 am to 11:00 AM from Loomis Ave. to Bondsville Road. This event is in memory of Chris Ambrose and is the 2nd Annual Chris Ambrose Sea You at the Beach 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk.
The Christine Federico Ambrose Education Fund was created in May 2011 after the untimely and sudden passing of Chris. The fund was established to raise money for the education of Chris and Larry Ambrose's eight wonderful children –Larry, Jordan, Zach, Celeste, Simon, Faith, Carmel and Solomon. Chris was a dedicated runner who liked nothing more than to run along the beaches of Sea Isle City, NJ. The start of the race will be at the Caln Township Municipal Park of Municipal Drive starting at 8 AM on Saturday October 20, 2012. Registration begins at 7 AM.
