On Wednesday December 3rd members from the Thorndale Vol. Fire Company gathered for an evening of training on forcible entry. This evening marked the 3rd session of a series of forcible entry training that culminated with a crew from the Keystone Valley Fire Department, Station 8 arriving with their door prop and some expertise.

With the help and instruction of the KVFD officers, the crews practiced different one and two person techniques when breaching doors that swing to the left and right as well as doors that open to the inside and doors that open out. The KVFD Capt. and Lt. went over some differences between metal vs. wood doors and typical security vs. higher security doors that might be found on commercial buildings in our area. Being comfortable with these tasks is something that can only come with performing them over and over again so that they become ingrained into our muscle memory. The goal is to be so efficient that we don’t have to think about what to do when forcing a door, instead we just do it.
