Readychesco.org -- Helps Residents Prepare For Any Emergency
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

February 14, 2015

Readychesco.org is a website you should access for information on how to handle all kinds of emergencies. The website is divided into three components that will help you to prepare for emergency situations:

KNOW YOUR RISKS!
The top 3 risks in Chester County are Severe Thunderstorms, Flooding, and Snow/Ice Storms. However, there are many threats that can happen in this region. In any emergency, always follow instructions given to you by your local police, fire, health department or emergency management agency. They will tell you to do one of 3 things: Evacuate, Shelter-in-Place, or Respond to a Public Health threat. There are links to information on other emergencies and how you would respond. These include fire, chemical spills, utility outages, radiation, etc.

Get Alerts!
By signing up for ReadyNotifyPA, you can get local alerts about emergencies, severe weather and road closures sent directly to your cell phone, as a text message or e-mail. ReadyNotifyPA is tailored for residents of the Southeastern PA region.

Make a Kit!
Make a plan and make a kit. Everyone’s plan and everyone’s kit will look different, since we all have different needs… Many of the items needed in your kit are already in your home, now you just need to put them all in one place! Communication is key. Plan on how to connect to your nearest and dearest to make sure everyone is okay. The kit should include at least 3 gallons of water per person, at least 3-day supply of nonperishable food, battery-powered or hand crank radio, NOAA weather radio with tone alert, flashlight, extra batteries, medication, first aid kit, manual can opener, and a cell phone with chargers
