On Sunday evening shortly after 5pm Company 38 along with Ambulance 41 were dispatched to the 30 bypass westbound at Milemarker 275.5 for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries. Chief 38 responded and was advised by Chester County that a vehicle was overturned and reports were of a child stuck under the vehicle. Prior to the Chief's arrival several bystanders pushed the vehicle off the child and removed her. Chief 38 arrived and confirmed the child was free but would need EMS. Rescue 38 with a crew of 5 responded and upon arrival assisted EMS with packaging of the patient and traffic control. Medic 93 who was also on scene advised Chief 38 that they would be transporting to Brandywine Hospital to the helipad and would need JeffStat 3 (helicopter) to be ready. EMS transported two patients to Brandywine, one went to JeffStat 3 which then transported to AI Dupont and the 2nd was taken to the ER.

A short time after EMS left the scene a 2nd accident occurred on the Eastbound side of Rt.30 directly across from the previous accident. This was a three vehicle accident. Chief 38 requested Engine 76 (VA Hospital) Fire Police out of Wagontown Fire Company and EMS to respond. Ambulance 41-1 responded back to the scene from BWH (Brandywine Hospital) and also requested a 2nd EMS unit which brought Ambulance 44 (Westwood) to the scene. All patients from the 2nd accident refused transport. Traffic on both sides of the highway was stopped. Eastbound was stopped for a short period of time and then one lane was opened until all the vehicles were removed, in which time all lanes re-opened. Westbound was closed for an extended period of time while PSP (PA State Police) investigated the accident. Also assisting at each scene were Traffic and Utility 38 and Utility 35 (Wagontown).

Units: Rescue 38, Traffic 38, Utility 38, Chief 38, Deputy 38

Mutual Aid: Ambulance 41-1 & 2, Utility 35, JeffStat 3, Medic 93
