By Photographer/Fire Police Officer Mark Walsh
April 27, 2016

As crews were wrapping up from our weekly training and getting ready to head home for the night the Company along with Ambulance 41 were dispatched to the 30 Bypass Westbound at Mile Masker 273.4 for the MVA w/ unknown injuries. Rescue 38 was on the street in less then 2 minutes with a crew of 5 followed shortly after by Engine 38, Traffic 38, Utility 38 and Squad 38. Deputy 38 was also responding direct to the scene and while responding was advised by Chester County that the vehicle was reported on it's side and they were now getting reports of Entrapment. With this new information the 911 Center automatically dispatches a Medic unit to the scene with the higher chances of a serious injury occurring.

Deputy 38 was the 1st on scene and reported a one vehicle accident with that vehicle on it's passenger side blocking the right lane. After further evaluation Deputy 38 determined the driver was still in the vehicle secured in her seat via her seatbelt and advised the crew of Rescue 38 they would need to assist her out of the vehicle. Upon arrival the Rescue crew was able to quickly assist the female out of her seat and out of the vehicle thru the sunroof and she was turned over to EMS who was also on scene.

At that time crews from Rescue,Engine and Squad 38 began cleaning up the large amount of rock and debris that was kicked onto the road when the vehicle hit the guardrail. While doing this Traffic 38 and Utility 38 assisted in shutting down the right lane of travel so that crews had a safe area to work. Once the tow truck arrived on scene the entire roadway was shut down so they could remove the vehicle safely.

Once the vehicle was removed and the rest of the roadway was cleaned up the Company was made available and returned to quarters ready for the next call to service. A total of 15 members responded on this incident.

Units: Rescue 38, Engine 38, Traffic 38, Squad 38, Utility 38, Deputy 38
