Caln Township "Live United in Color" 5k Run/Walk

By Lt. Sean Barron
May 1, 2016

Mother Nature threatened to “rain on our parade”, so thank goodness today was a race! On Sunday May 1, 2016, members of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company assisted with the "Live United in Color" 5K Run through the streets of Caln Township. Live United in Color 5K is all about a fun-filled day to show support for the United Way of Chester County and despite the ominous clouds, those that came out had a good time. There were many smiles that completed the run with six different color stations where the runners were doused in a colored powder as they passed through the station.

The Company’s’ day began in the rain at 08:45 with dropping off barricades and traffic cones all along the course to prepare for the event. Around noon, the Volunteers were able to close down G.O. Carlson Blvd in order for the race organizers to stage their tents and water stations in their strategic locations. Several of our members provided traffic control, at Barley Sheaf Rd, N. Bailey Rd. and Municipal Drive to allow for cross traffic before, during and after the race. At the conclusion of the run, with the assistance of West Bradford Fire Company Chief Jack Law and Tanker 39, crews from Engine 38 and Rescue 38 then washed down the roadway of the biodegradable, cornstarch powder.

We would to thank the Washington Hose Company for providing an ambulance crew for the day, East Brandywine Fire Company for the use of their ATV to provide mobile EMS along the course if needed and thanks again to Chief Jack Law for his use of Tanker 39 that aided in a fast clean up.
