On Tuesday morning just after 7am Station 38 was dispatched to the Route 30 bypass westbound at MM 278.5 for the reported tractor trailer fire. Engine 38 made the response and were advised of a Tractor Trailer carrying garbage on fire on the side of the roadway. The 911 center advised they were getting numerous calls. Due to these reports Engine 38 requested Engine 76 and Engine/Tanker 47-5 for manpower and additional water supply.

Engine 38 arrived first and found a trailer with the contents fully involved. The driver of the vehicle was alert enough to detach the tractor from the trailer prior to the Engine's arrival. The Engine crew pulled an 1 3/4 bumper line and placed a 24 foot extension ladder to the rear of the truck and began to put a knock on the fire. FM 39 arrived and took Command while Sgt 38 had operations. Traffic 38 arrived and shut down the entire westbound side of the roadway temporarily to allow firefighters to deploy their handlines in a safe manner without worrying about vehicles passing by. Engine 76 arrived and supplied Engine 38 with water and they also deployed an 1 3/4 foam line to the front corner of the trailer. Engine 47-5 arrived and supplied the scene with water and assisted with overhaul. Once all 3 trucks were on scene and crews were in service Traffic 38 was able to open one lane on the far left shoulder to allow traffic to flow. Crews were on scene for just over an hour.
