Volunteers Handle 3 Emergencies at Once

On Saturday 11/25/2017 at 16:01 Station 38 was dispatched to the 100blk of Turtlepoint Ln for the Carbon Monoxide Alarm. While Chief 38 and Engine 38 were responding to this call Chester County 911 Center advised of a second emergency in the 200blk of Carlyn Ct for the Oven Fire. Rescue 38, Traffic 38 and Engine 76 made the response to that call. As they were all responding a third emergency was dispatched in Caln Township this time in the 1500blk of Fisherville Rd for the auto accident. Initially only Ambulance 144 was dispatched to this but on their arrival they advised of a pole leaning across the roadway and a vehicle overturned. This prompted a response from Thorndale Fire Police. Traffic 38 re-directed from the oven fire to the accident along with several other fire police officers who were enroute to the other calls as well.

Engine 38 and Chief 38 handled the CO incident without any incident and it was believed to have been caused by a faulty detector. Units cleared from that call within 30 minutes.

Assistant 38 and Rescue 38 along with Engine 76 arrived at the oven fire with a smoke condition in the residence and found that the homeowner had a culinary mishap which caused all of the smoke. There was no fire and crews ventilated the house and were also clear a short time later.

Traffic 38, Utility 38 and 3 other Fire Police officers handled the accident call. Utility 38 (Miller) and 38-39 (Walsh) closed down Fisherville Rd at Kings Grant Blvd while Traffic 38 (Mostyn & Cunningham) along with 38-31 (Neff) and 38-37 (Sciandra) closed down Fisherville Rd at the rear entrance to the hospital. Due to the severity of the damage to the pole, PECO advised the road would need to be shut down for several hours. Crews were able to place barricades at those two locations and cleared the scene within approx. 1 hour.

Theee calls at one time doesn't happen often but when they do the Thorndale Volunteers stand ready to respond and assist the public. As always a big thank you to the crew from Engine 76 (VA Hospital) for the assistance.
