| On Saturday July 30, 2011, our friends from the Columbia Hose and Steam Company No. 1 of Shenandoah, PA stopped by Thorndale for a visit as part of a day trip firehouse tour to the Philadelphia region. Captain Joe Boris and his wife Lieutenant Shari Boris along with the rest of the members of the Columbia Hose Company have always been welcoming of Thorndale Firefighters when they travel to Schuylkill County for numerous events including our visit to the Schuylkill County Historical Society in the summer of 2010, please follow this link for photos of this trip; http://www.thorndalefirecompany.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=388. Thorndale Firefighters were more than happy to return the favor and welcome the members of the Columbia Hose and Steam Company when we found out they were coming. The group from Schuylkill County arrived shortly before noon with Engineer Rich Rissel and his wife Alicia welcoming the group to Thorndale. Captain Dan Donnachie gave them a brief tour of our apparatus followed by Engineer Rissel showing them our facility. Deputy Chief John Carbo had prepared a nice lunch for the group in our clubroom, unfortunately several of Thorndale Firefighters were not able to join them for lunch as Engine 38 was providing stand-by service for the Minquas Fire Company of Downingtown and had been dispatched to an Automatic Fire Alarm in the 100 Block of Wilderness Trail in East Bradford Township. After many laughs and some camaraderie, the group from Schuylkill County departed to continue on their day trip to visit the Swedesburg Fire Company and George Clay Fire Company of West Conshohocken.
