On Saturday November 22, 2014, the Thorndale Fire Company and an Ambulance from the Minquas Fire Company of Downingtown were dispatched at 13:06 to Palace Packing on Edges Mill Road for a Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Chief 38 (Cordisco) and Deputy 38 (Donnachie) arrive to find what appeared to Fire Alarm sounding at the unoccupied packaging center. Chief 38 established Edges Mill Road Command and ordered the crew of Rescue 38 to investigate the alarm.

Rescue 38's crew entered the building and discovered carbon monoxide readings of 45 PPM throughout the warehouse. The alarm system was silenced while the crew investigated the source of the carbon monoxide. It was discovered the workers were in the warehouse earlier that morning using a propane powered fork lift to change light bulbs. The fork lift was malfunctioning and producing carbon monoxide levels of 600 PPM while running.

Carbon monoxide at 35 PPM is the maximum recommended exposure limit per the National Institutes for Occupational Safety and Health. Exposure to 400 PPM for over 3 hours could be life threatening, luckily in this incident the warehouse was unoccupied and the carbon monoxide detection system was functioning.

While the incident at Palace Packaging was ongoing, Edges Mill Command was notified of a second incident in the 2200 Block of Hartley Avenue for a Leaves Fire. Edges Mill Command advised that units were tied up and that cover units would need to be dispatched.

Engine 76 (Coatesville VA Hospital) was dispatched at 13:41 to cover the Thorndale Fire Company. Engine 76 arrived to find a leaves fire to the rear of a home and requested Brush 37 (Modena) to assist. Brush 37 and Engine 76 extinguished the fire and was assisted with overhaul from the crews of Rescue 38 and Engine 38 after they cleared the Carbon Monoxide Incident.

Crews returned to the station and cleaned all equipment from the two back to back incidents before returning to service.
