On Monday 8/1/2016 at 11:18AM Station 38 (Thorndale) was dispatched along with Engine 76 (VA Hospital) to assist Station 49 (East Brandywine) at Freedom Village for the reported toaster fire. Engine 76 arrived 1st with nothing showing from the exterior of the building. Initial reports were of a toaster fire on the 5th floor with smoke and unknown flames. As Engine 76 made their way to the apartment and exited the stairwell they encountered a heavy smoke condition on the 5th floor hallway. At that time 49 Command requested the full box alarm be transmitted. On the upgraded assignment were 41/43, (Coatesville) Ladder 8, (Keystone Valley) 44, (Westwood) 33 (Honey Brook) for RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) and two ambulances from Coatesville.

Crews made entry into the main apartment involved and found a toaster fire that began to extend up the wall. Crews were able to make a quick knock on the fire. While that was going on EMS and other fire crews assisted all the residents down to the 4th floor out of the smoke and searched all of the apartments on the 5th floor to make sure no one was left behind.

No residents were injured and there were no reported FF injuries. Crews were on scene for over an hour clearing the smoke from the building and cleaning up.
