On 10/9/2016 at 22:28hrs Station 38 was dispatched to 4604 Edges Mill Rd (A1 Mulch) for the report of a mulch pile on fire. Ambulance 189-1 was passing the area on the 30 bypass when they noticed the fire and called it in to Chester County 911 Center. Assistant 38 made the response and was informed of a working fire near the mulch piles and that crews would need to cut a chain on the gate to gain entrance to the facility.

Engine 38 made the response a short time later followed by Rescue 38, Utility 38, Traffic 38 and Chief 38. Crews arrived on scene and forced entry. Upon entering the facility crews realized it was a grinder that was on fire not the mulch. Due to the proximity of the fire to the mulch piles Assistant 38 requested Engine 49-5 to the scene to assist with water. Crews stretched one line and after several minutes were able to put a knock on the fire. Due to diesel fuel being involved and not being able to gain complete access to the entire grinder crews used foam to help extinguish the fire. After the owner of the property arrived crews turned the scene over to them and were made available.
