The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company offers a number of opportunities to serve your community simply by volunteering your time and skills. Pride in your community is what inspires the men and women to volunteer in the fire service. For the month of October we are pleased to honor Kim Mattson with being our Featured Member. Kim has been a huge asset in coordinating all of our Fire Prevention programs and demonstrations. Kim has an extensive background and more so a strong passion for what she does. “I am proud of the many accomplishments that I have done in the 30 years that I have been in the Fire Service. From holding rank of Lieutenant, to driving the apparatus, interior Firefighting, and now Teaching the Public about Fire and Life Safety. I read and approved many Federal Grants for the Assistance to Firefighters grant program and Fire Prevention Grants. I was one of the first with 13 other Firefighters throughout the USA who became Nationally Certified as a Fire and Life Safety Educator and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist. I have been truly blessed with some awesome Leaders and Peers that I have worked with, who have supported so many of the journeys of my life in the Fire Service.”

We cannot begin to thank not only our featured member but all of our members for their outstanding efforts in protecting the residents, business owners, and visitors of Caln Township. Please join us in thanking all of our members in their hard work and dedication to not only the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company but to the community.

Why did you become an emergency responder? “I joined the Fire Service because initially I wanted to become a Paramedic, but once I rode the Engine that was it for me. My Grandfather was a Chief/Firefighter in Norristown many years ago. He died when I was 8 years old, and I think his soul guided me to the Fire service.”
