Black Friday is typically a busy time in Caln Township with many people coming into the area to go shopping and find deals for the holidays. Unfortunately yesterday some of those people got a little more than they bargained for when they were involved in a serious accident on G.O. Carlson & James Buchanan. At approx 1320hrs Ambulance 41 from Coatesville was dispatched to that location for an accident with unknown injuries. A crew from Thorndale happened to be at the firehouse and heard the call go out. Due to the location and the unknown extent they advised Chester County 911 Center they would be responding. At that time the 911 Center had gotten further information reporting this to be a serious auto accident with subjects possibly trapped. Station 38 was then re-dispatched and Medic 93 was also added to the call.

Rescue 38 arrived with a 2 vehicle accident blocking the intersection and began checking on injuries and the possibility of entrapment. Sgt 38 advised the County they did have entrapment in one of the vehicle and would be going in service. He also requested Engine 76 (VA Hospital) to respond also for a manpower assist. Captain 38 (Walters) was also on location and assumed command. Engine 76 responded immediately and Engine 38 also made the response. Crews put numerous tools in service including the Hurst Cutters and Spreaders to remove the two driver side doors and then the roof of the vehicle allowing EMS access to the patient trapped in the vehicle. All crews worked great together and the extrication was complete just 18 minutes after the initial dispatch time.

Two patients were transported by EMS to local hospitals. Fire Police were also on scene and had the scene shut down to allow Fire/EMS and Police to operate safely.
