On Monday 1/23/2017 as a storm was starting to arrive into the area bringing with it high winds and rain the Thorndale Volunteers were alerted at 07:39 for an accident reported serious at the intersection of N Caln Rd & Ridgeview Dr. Initial reports were of a vehicle overturned. FM39 (Stackhouse) was the first to arrive and reported one vehicle overturned with a subject still inside and trapped. FM39 immediately requested Station 76 (VA Hospital) to assist. Rescue 38 and Engine 76 made the response. Initial observation appeared that a tree had fallen on the roadway and the vehicle hit it and flipped over. Deputy 38 arrived and assumed N Caln Rd Command and advised Rescue 38 they would need to perform a rapid extrication. Ambulance 41 and Medic 93 were also on scene and were assisting with the removal of the driver. Several firefighters were able to gain access to the patient and were able to remove him without cutting the car.

Afterwards, the crew from Engine 76 was working quickly to remove the large pieces of the tree from one lane of the roadway so that EMS could get thru and transport the patient to the hospital. Traffic had been shut down already at the North side of the hill by Traffic 38 while the South side was covered by Utility 38. EMS transported the lone occupant to a local hospital. Fire crews remained on scene clearing the rest of the tree debris and waiting for the tow truck. After speaking with witnesses to the crash it was determined that the tree had actually fallen on top of the vehicle which then caused it to overturn.
