On Saturday July 16th at 13:30 hours, Station 38 was alerted as part of the first alarm assignment to the 1500 block of Winfield Dr in West Bradford for a house fire. Initial reports to the responding units were of a lawn tractor that had exploded in the garage, and it was now on fire. Shortly after dispatch Chief 38 advised Chief 39 that a large column of smoke could be seen from several miles away. With that report, Chief 39 immediately requested a 1st Alarm Tanker Task Force due to the lack of hydrants or sufficient water supply in the area as well as the Working Fire Dispatch.

Chief 38 arrived on location first and reported a 1 1/2 story single family dwelling with fire through the roof of an attached garage. Engine 38 arrived as the first due engine and split their crew assignments with the initial crew stretching a 2 1/2 inch hose line to make a knock on the fire in the garage area. The other crew from Engine 38 stretched a second 1 3/4 handline and was taken into the front door to check for fire exposure that was impending on the living area of the residence. Engine 39-1 and Tanker 39 arrived shortly after and began to supply their water to Engine 38.

Crews quickly worked to bring the fire under control in just 23 minutes containing the bulk of the fire to the garage area. Station 38 operated on this incident for just over two hours before being released by Command. Photos are courtesy of IrishEyez Photog and Chesco Fire Rescue Photography.
